- Our legal representative, who is negotiating with Osaka Prefecture for our acceptance as a religious organization, reports that the our application is progessing and the expected date of registration will be at the presentation of accounts for 2011.

- Our accounts for 2009 have been submitted to the accountant and we will publish a balance sheet in due course.

2009/10 Annual General Meeting Report

The 2009/10 ICCO Annual General Meeting was officially held on March 28th. The first resolution was to accept the change of status from Chukan Hojin to Shadan Hoijin in compliance with the new Japanese Corporation Law which came into force on December 1st. 2008. This proposal was adopted unanimously. A translation of the new hojin constitution will be ready soon, and the Japanese version is available here.
The second resolution was the reelection of the present board members. On the advice of our legal advisor, no changes were made to the board and all the members were reelected. The accounts for 2009 were presented, the minutes were approved, and the meeting was concluded.

Improvements to Islamic Cultural Center

The cultural center is intended to serve both as a mosque, a school, and a meeting place for the many Muslim men, women and children living in the area, and studying in Osaka University. Sadly the walls, carpets and furniture are suffering from damage due to heavy use, especially by unsupervised children.

We have received some excellent suggestions from members and after discussion them with all the  OMA representatives, we have decided to solve these problems by making some improvements to the existing facilities. These include adding a children's classroom and dinning room in the area behind the main building, and a mihrab in front of the prayer room. The dinning room and classroom will help to isolate the damage to the furniture, carpets and walls by young children, and avoid damage to the mosque carpets caused by accidents at mealtimes.  The addition of a mihrab will allow an extra line during the daily and especially the Friday prayers.

We are investigating various construction methods for the extension at the rear of the building. Perhaps the simplest, and most efficient method would be to use a large prefabricated room, the advantages being rapid assembly, relatively low cost, and no major changes to the existing building.

We hope to raise money for this mosque extension project during the spring and complete work in the summer, insha'Allah. The estimated target budget is from 1.5-2 million yen depending on construction methods and quality. We will keep you informed as the project progresses and our plans are finalized.

Please send your donations for this project to:
